    What is the In-Demand Skills Stream?

    The In-Demand Skills Stream is an immigration program that focuses on provincial demand of occupation rather than emphasizing the occupation skill level. The idea is that there are occupations that are considered “highly skilled.” While Ontario province still has labor shortages in occupations that are considered to be “low skilled.”

    With the In-demand skills, the Foreign workers with valid job offers in Ontario can get nominated with nine months of work experience in the province gained in the past three years. Seasonal work experience is not eligible as a work experience requirement. Part-time work can be considered eligible if the candidate meets the work hours requirement, i.e., 1,200 hours of paid work in one job over the course of 18 months. It could be divided into different jobs as well, where work is at least 30 hours per week for a minimum of nine months totalling 1,200 hours.

    Apart from minimum education level is high school education with a language score of at least 4 in all proficiencies and proof of funds

    About the Regional Immigration Pilot

    The Regional Immigration Pilot is an immigration pathway of the province which helps attract newcomers to rural communities. The province will be allowed to allocate 150 nominations in 2021 to three rural locations: Chatham-Kent, Cornwall, and Quinte West/Belleville. With this program, the skills shortage can be met by helping the newcomers get settled. The candidates who are eligible for any one of the OINP Employer Job Offer streams and also have a full-time job offer in hand from any one of the participating communities, then you can get selected through Regional Immigration Pilot.

    There are three Employer Job Offer streams:

    • Foreign Worker Stream - applicants with a skilled job offer in Ontario;

    • International Student Stream - international students with job offers; and

    • In-Demand Skills Stream - applicants in occupations that have labour shortages in Ontario.

    Getting selected through the provincial nomination allows an applicant with 600 extra points in the federal point calculation. The Regional Immigration Pilot is approved for two years, after which its success will determine if the program will be continued or not. It will be cancelled if it fails to meet its objective.
