What are the Latest rules on Canada PR especially after COVID 19?

The best way to immigrate to Canada is through the Permanent Residency(PR) status of Canada, but not everyone gets the Permanent Residency(PR) status. It is only those who qualify the requirements and meet the eligibility norms. There are different pathways to get the Canada PR-

  • Express Entry Program
  • Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
  • Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program(AIPP)
  • Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot Program (RNIP)

All these pathways have their eligibility requirements. The selected candidates are granted the ITA (Invitation to Apply) for the Permanent Residency(PR) status by the IRCC (Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada) only after they meet the eligibility of a pathway.

To adequately immigrate with the eligibility requirements, it is pertinent that one is aware of the latest rules and changes in the Canada PR process. COVID 19 has brought about a lot of changes in the design and process of PR. A few of them are listed below:

Settlement and resettlement services available during COVID-19 pandemic

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) fund more than 500 service provider organizations across Canada. These service providers have the main work of taking care of pre- and post-arrival settlement and resettlement services. The organizations aim to help the applicant with the information on life in Canada and the community they will live in and help them make connections. IRCC has asked to resume these service at different times based on locations in the COVID 19 times

Temporary residents can restore their status

Limited air travel and other restrictions made it difficult to provide a complete application and created hassles in the application process. Hence, a new public policy has been initiated by IRCC to help temporary residents restore their status. Earlier, there was a 90 day time for restoring. Now applicants whose status expired after January 30, 2020, have until December 31, 2020, apply to regain their status. Also, the work-permit holders who are applying under the employer-specific work permit can continue till the time decision is waiting, but to do so, they must have a job offer and LMIA or LMIA-exempt offer of employment

Innovative approach in COVID 19 times

COVID 19 has made the in-person events limited and physical distancing important. Now, the IRCC is using new-to-us technology to disperse information gathered. Now, several of its kind virtual news conferences are held by the IRCC. recently a ground-breaking approval was when a Couple got permission to become Canadian parent to a child with a non-biological link. This was a revelation as now the child born abroad becomes eligible for Canadian citizenship if one of the parents can pass on citizenship

Biometrics collection exempted for temporary residence

The IRCC collects biometric information (photo and fingerprints) for all visas at Service Canada centers. These centers closed on March 27, 2020, because of ongoing public health concerns related to COVID‑19. Now, as the centers have begun to open, the biometric collection services are still not active. Therefore, until further notice, temporary residence applicants’ biometrics is exempted, and the applicants will not have to pay the biometric fee as well.

The candidates who are already in Canada they can apply to any of the for any of the following and will be covered by the public policy for an extension of a work permit

  • a new work permit from the Canadian employer
  • an extension of a study permit signed by authorities
  • a new student permit
  • a visitor visa
  • a visitor record document that allows an individual to stay in Canada as a temporary resident
  • restoration (extension) of temporary resident status
  • a temporary resident permit
