Why has the IRCC conducted a CEC-only draw this year?

Coronavirus pandemic is the reason behind the CEC and PNP-specific draws that have been conducted this year. The IRCC doesn’t want to disrupt the measures taken to disrupt the pandemic situation and thus has aimed to meet the immigration target by converting temporary workers into permanent workers. Thus the programs have been very specific with Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and Canadian experience class (CEC) applicants being selected. So far, there have been 16 PNP and 16 CEC-specific draws that are conducted.

The CRS score requirement in the PNP specific draw is much higher than the CEC specific draw score requirements as the PNP applicants get 600 additional points against their score after getting the nomination.
