    Canada Government extends travel restrictions till May 21

    Amidst the pandemic situation affecting people all around the world, there are restrictions imposed on international travellers. These travel restrictions have now been extended until at least May 21. These travel restrictions are for people from all countries, including the USA. Canada’s Public Safety minister Bill Blair made this announcement public via Twitter.

    As corona cases continue to rise, there is a concern all over the world, and IRCC is interested in taking all the measures to keep Canadians safe. Thus until May 21, 2021, Restrictions on non-US international travel into Canada have also been extended.

    There are only four airports where international flights are being accepted: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary.

    The incoming travellers who are not part of the travel restrictions should provide a COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before they land in Canada. Another test upon arrival is also necessary. There is also a quarantine in a government-approved hotel for three days which is necessary. These quarantine requirements have also been extended, and the applicants are required to quarantine for 14 days. The mandated three-day hotel stay is also a part of the 14-day quarantine period. The emergency service providers like truck drivers and technicians who live in the trans-border community and regularly cross the border are also included.

    When will the Canada border re-open?

    Canada Health Minister Patty Hajdu has emphasized again and again that it is time to travel. Canada needs to monitor a lot of things before it opens the border, such as domestic spread, the capacity of provinces and territories, and how they can manage its jurisdiction. Just like another country, Canada is also facing the third wave of the COVID-19 virus.

    Are vaccinated travellers exempt from the travel restrictions?

    Canada has a close watch on the effectiveness of “vaccine passports.” There is no evidence at the moment if the vaccinated people can spread the virus to others.

    Justin Trudeau, Canada’s prime minister, has emphasized the measures that are appropriate for those who are vaccinated, especially those who are immunized by vaccines that Health Canada does not approve.

    Who all are not included in the travel restrictions?

    Only a few people are not part of the travel restrictions, and they will be provided entry into Canada. These people will include Canadian citizens and permanent residents, and also their family members. Apart from this, some of the temporary foreign workers and international students attending the school with a COVID-19 response plan are allowed in Canada.

    Compassionate reasons which allow travel in Canada-

    ·        If you have to present in the final moments of a loved one or someone who has provided support or care for someone who is critically ill;

    ·        To provide medical aid to a person who needs it;

    ·        To attend a funeral or end-of-life ceremony.

    Even those who are doing the Compassionate travel in Canada also need to fill out an application and get a limited release from quarantine before the end of the 14 days period.
